Office of the Health Insurance Commissioner (OHIC)
The Office of the Health Insurance Commissioner (OHIC) is responsible for:
Guarding the solvency of health insurers; Protecting the interest of consumers; Encouraging policies and evelopments that improve the quality and efficiency of health care service devliery and outcomes; and Viewing the health care system as a comprehensive entity and encourage and direct insureres towards policies that advance the welfare of the public through overall efficienty, improved health care quality, and appropriate access.
In 2013, OHIC completed an evaluation on the effectiveness and appropriateness of the Affordability Standards. The evaluation found that the Standards have been successful in accelerating the primary care patient centered medical home transformation efforts and slowed the rate of hospital cost increases. The OHIC Summary Document addressed the revised Affordability Standards which are intended to increase the affordability of health insurance and improve the efficacy of the delivery system, with particular emphasis on providing integrated population based care.
